How do I turn off the automatic format on XP? I have to
publish a newsletter and a bulletin (church) and do not
need the system to automatically format either one for me
as they are sort of out of the ordinary. Please help me
to turn this function off.

Tools > autocorrect options > autoformat as you type. Uncheck everything you
don't actually need - most of it!
Also in the Format Style dialog, uncheck automatically update.
