Winmail.dat attachment frowarding message - OL 2003

Hi all,
I am upset: I ve installed OL2003 on my PC. Every time I fwd a message with
attachments, OL converts it to rtf format though I've configured in options
my mail format and internet mail format to html.
Recipients using other client than OL receive winmail.dat attachment.
Any Idea? I am really sure about my client Options ... When I send an email
(not forward) with attachments, the html format is respected.

As I said, all my settings are set to format my message in html...

Forwarding and replying use the format of the original message. Thus, if
you try to forward a Rich Text message, the people to whom you send it will
receive Rich Text (and the attendant winmail.dat) unless you purposefully
change the format prior to sending.

It doesn't make any difference if you change format, change encoding or
printed-quotable, or anything else MS says on the subject. (Extensive testing
procgram later)

I can only assume they think the original message is sacroscant and
shouldn't be changed at all by the forwarding process.

It would be nice if MS would give a clear answer/reason on this so all these
people weren't wasting time trying to apply fixes.

Well, it certainly works for me and others where I work, so perhaps you've
gont a problem locally.

I have re-produced the problem from different computers, using different
servers and receiving on different email accounts and clients.

I can see that the email is plain text, yet I still get
winmail.dat with the attachments inside.

I can send a copy of the message if it's useful

I don't have any good way to read it with a client that can access an
address I'm willing to post.
