I have 1 contact that receives a winmial.dat file as an attachment. I have a
total of 15 people who I send attachments to that use AOL and this 1 contact
is the only person who gets the winmail.dat instead of hte actual attachment.
I have made every change I can find listed and it still isn't working. Also
I am the only person using excahnge in the office that he has this issue
with. Everyone else who sends files to him (or even forwards my email) he
gets fine. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You must not send in Rich Text..only plain text or html, or those not using
Outlook will not get the attachment.

Open the record of that contact and double-click the e-mail address. You
should see an "E-mail Properties" dialogue. Examine the "Internet format"
drop-down at the bottom. It should say "Let Outlook decide the best sending
format".

Outlook is the only e-mail client that understands Microsoft's
proprietary TNEF format (aka RTF). Stop using RTF unless you can
guarantee that every recipient is also using Outlook and are in the same
Exchange organization as yourself. Set the option within Outlook to
compose in text or HTML format. All e-mail clients can read plain-text
messages. Rare few (and often extremely old) e-mail client cannot
render HTML-formatted messages (although they are not web browsers so
they will not correctly every HTML directive that can be used in a web
page).

If your company has a requirement to use RTF for internal e-mails (i.e.,
e-mails to other of its employees) there is still the option to convert
to HTML format for external (Internet) recipients. In OL2002 (you never
mentioned WHICH version you use), go to Tools -> Options -> Mail Format
tab, Internet Format button, Outlook Rich-Text options, select "Convert
to HTML".

Otherwise, tell your non-Outlook user to get Winmail Opener
(http://www.eolsoft.com/freeware/winmail_opener/). However, I doubt
that they will appreciate having to install 3rd party software because
you are sending e-mails in a Microsoft proprietary format rather than
using a global-wide standard format, like text or HTML.
