winmail.dat

The issue I am having relates to sending an email through Outlook with an
Excel attachment. When I send an email to my customer the attachment does
not show up as an excel file. The file they see is a winmail.dat file which
is of no use to them. However, when I CC the file to someone else in my
office they are able to see it just fine and when they forward the file to my
customer, the customer is able to see the file just fine.

Does anyone know why this is and how I can fix it? I want to be able to
send the file to my customer the first time and be able to view it.

If you are using RTF instead of text or html in Outlook, recipients using
Outlook Express will not see the attachments.
