Hi!
I have an issue with Microsoft Outlook 2003 (SP2 and fully patched).
Whenever the user sends an e-mail with and attachment, the recipient either
gets no attachment at all (the body of the text is OK though) or a file
named winmail.dat.
It doesn't happen without all the recipients, just with a few of them.
I tried the workaround proposed by Microsoft support (send the messages in
the HTML format, or in RTF format) but I have still the same problem.

I reinstalled Microsoft Office 2003 completely; I also deleted and
re-created the user profile. No use.

Any idea?

If you have the problem with a few contacts, then perhaps their contact
records are overriding the default format setting. Open the contact record
of one of the people who are getting the winmail.dat or not attachment.
Double-click on the e-mail address and examine the "Internet format"
drop-down at the bottom. Make sure it says "Let Outlook decide the best
sending format". I suspect it says "Send using Outlook RIch Text Format" at
the moment.

You were quite right and it solved my issue.
I didn't think I would need to make some change on the recipient itself.

One more question: my user has 3600 addresses in his personal address book
(yes...). Is there a way to apply automatically the change from "Send using
Outlook Rich Text Format" to "Let Outlook decide the best sending format"?

The question is how they got that way because I believe "let Outlook decide"
is the default setting. I don't know of any way to change it on such a
grand scale.

Frankly, I don't know.
This client desktop is part of an Exchange Server 2003 SP2 infrastructure. I
don't if there is something to dig out there.
I shall go on VBA group; a macro maybe could do the job.
