I installed the latest version of WinZip and it installed an add-in to Word
called WinZip E-Mail Companion. This COM add-in caused Word to crash
immediately when launched - no error messages, it just locked up and, when I
exited, I got the typical "program is not responding" popup. I deleted the
WinZip E-Mail Companion and everything is back to normal.
For anyone else who has this problem, this is what I had to do:
Start -> Run -> winword /a
Tools | Customize
Categories: Tools
Commands: drag "COM Add-ins..." to toolbar
Close
Click on "Com Add-ins..." button
If you have it, you'll see something called WinZip E-Mail Companion
wzofc.dll. Remove it!
Close window, close Word, restart Word. If you're like me, it's fixed.
