Winword Error

Chris

I am using MS Office 2000 on a WinME system. Last week
the system crashes and I had to restore it. Now I cannot
start MS Word. The error that pops up is "Winword has
caused an error in MS09.DLL. Winword will now close."
All the other programs with Office 2000 work just fine.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re-run setup from the Office CD-Rom and choose repair. It seems that System
Restore deleted a program file for Word 2000.

I've tried that twice with no luck. I have looked
through other help forums and tried to start the program
from Run and type in winword.exe /a and I've tried to
rename the normal.dot template. Both with no luck.

The best recommendation I have right now is to uninstall Office 2000, run
the Office Clean Up Wizard, which can be found on the Office CD-Rom then
reinstall back again. Before doing that, try applying the latest service
pack and patches, it seems that Normal.dot template has gone corrupt.

Keep posting for further update.

DOn't uninstall/reinstall as it rarely ever resolves the problem because all
the add-ins, templates, registry entries and normal.dot remain untouched by
doing that. SO 99% of the time you will be wasting your time. Instead of
following the dumb advice you have been given, try following the FAQ below
which goes through troubleshooting steps to resolve the problem. Most likely
is the crash corrupted normal.dot.

Unfortunately the best recommendation right now is not to follow this
advice!

Andre, we appreciate all the help we can get in the newsgroups however
if you are uncertain about your suggestions/advice or if it a wild
guess then please do not post it or specify that you are not certain.

Take your current reply for example. If you truly believe the OP's
Normal.dot is corrupt then how will reinstalling Office rectify the
problem? The Normal.dot is not replaced when you reinstall.

No one is correct 100% of the time but most of those who answer
questions in the newsgroups have either researched their responses
first or are familiar with the issue at hand.
