WINWORD.EXE application error - failing to initialize

I am running Word 97 and cannot open any Word files. I get the following
error: "WINWORD.EXE application error. The application failed to initialize
properly (Oxc0000006). Click on OK to terminate the application." After
clicking OK, I get the following message: "Windows cannot find
C:\Documents\..."

I don't know if it's just a Word problem or perhaps a virus. My computer is
also sluggish and interprets and types most text in italics. Also, when I
tried to copy an important Word file from hard drive to floppy, it just
"disappeared." Is that possible? Very bizarre.

Thanks for any help!
