winword.exe error

I'm using Word 2000 (SR-1) with Windows XP Home Edition,
and usually as I am saving a document the error message
that Microsoft has encountered a problem and must shut
down comes up. I looked up the details and it
says "AppNam winword.exe".

I've searched for the normal.dot file (in trying to
research this online, I see this a lot) and I can't even
find one on my system. Could this be the problem? If
so, how do I fix that?

Thanks!

In Windows XP, the folder that contains Normal.dot is hidden. You have to
set Windows to display hidden files and folders.
