Winword.exe error

Mark

I have a Windows ME system running Office 2000 that
suddenly started generating an error message whenever
Word is started. The error message is "winword has
caused an error in winword.exe. Winword will now
close".

I have deleted the normal.dot file and it did not solve
the problem. But what is strange is that Word did not
recreate the normal.dot file. When I search for that
file name, nothing shows up. I have also uninstalled and
reinstalled Word but still have the problem.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Two reasons why you're not finding Normal.dot: (a) it's not created till
modify something, and (b) in Windows XP, the folder in which it is stored is
a hidden folder (which is ridiculous, of course, since it's also the user
templates folder), so you won't see it in Explorer (or find it in a Windows
search) unless you have the Windows Folder Options set to display hidden
files and folders.

I noted your message regarding word causing error. My programme only states this at the end. Have you had any replies.
