winword.exe has generated errors

Whenever I click on the "Tools" menu (to print envelopes,
etc.) the message "winword.exe has generated errors and
will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the
program.". Do any of you know what can fix this? I tried
the "detect and repair" function, but that didn't fix the
problem.

Hi, Susan. Try starting Word in safe mode by clicking on Start | Run | Open: winword /a. Then click on the Tools menu... does Word still crash? Close Word and restart it normally, then click on the Tools menu again... does Word still crash? If so, the problem could be a damaged Word data key in the Windows registry. You can find a list of what settings are stored in this data key and instructions for deleting the key under "Deleting and recreating the corrupt registry values" in http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissngMenusEtc.htm.
