WINWORD.exe opens at startup

After restarting my computer I can generally not open a word document,
or if it does open I will be able to type and select text, etc using
the keyboard, but unable to do anything in the text field using the
mouse. Also, any new document I start will be named Document2,
suggesting there is some phantom Document1 I can never see. When I
check the task manager Processes list after booting, I see an instance
of WINWORD.exe, even if I have not yet opened word. When I end this
process and then try to open a document, everything works as normal.
I am running Word 2002 and XP Pro, I have tried restoring my normal.dot
file.

I would like to know what is going on. Is this a macro virus that I was
unable to get rid of (error in normal.dot restore?) or some harmelss
bug...

Are you using Word as your email editor? Are you starting Outlook at
startup?
