"winword has caused an error in Winword.exe "

I'm using WORD 2000 SR-1 with WINME. Every time I try to
save a new Word document (text only) or open a peviously
created and saved document,I receieve the message "winword
has caused an error in Winword.exe and will now close".

I've tried removing and re-installing WORD from cd, but
the error persists, leaving me with no access nor use for
WORD for new or old documents.

Anyone have any ideas ??
