Winword print error

Alex

I have an hp deskjet 3550, a win98 system, and office xp.
Every time I give the command to print, word will crash.
i have downloaded all updates for printer, computer and
windows... but I still cant get it to work... I have no
problems with any of the other applications, in office or
any other programs on the machine, just word. It gives me
the send error report pop up, and before I installed the
updates it even took me to Crash Recovery Page, where it
told me to get the updates. Well I got them, but now it
just crashes, and after sending the error report, it
doesnt give me a link to the crash recovery page anymore.
Any help on this would be greatly apprecitated. Thanks in
advance...

Hi, Alex. Does Word crash if you print to another printer? If you
don't have another printer, install one in Windows and configure it to
print to the NUL: port, and try printing to it. If you can print to a
different printer without crashing, then the problem is caused by the
printer driver for your DeskJet 3550. If Word crashes when printing to
a different printer, then try running Detect & Repair from Word's Help
menu.

Thanks garfield, but, hiw do I configure a printer to print on a Null port, I
added one of the printers from the list, but it got set up on LPT 1, and when
I try to change the port for a local printer, well, it doesnt give me the
option of a null port...am I supposed to say it is a netword printer and just
type in Null??? or what is the correct thing to do...

Hi, Alex. When you install the printer, configure it to print to LPT1:.
After the printer is installed, click on Start | Control Panel |
Printers. Right-click on the fake printer, then left-click on
Properties | Ports, and select NUL: from the list of ports.

the driver, and bingo.... thanks for your help.....
