WinWord2000 Error when quitting

B

Becky

I have Word 2000 (Microsoft Works Suite)on a Windows
98...I recently updated my Norton Internet Security and
have Explorer 6 with SP1 and recently updated with SR1.
All programs operate fine, except Word...when quitting
word, I get the following error message:

Winword
This program has performed an illegal operation and will
be shut down.

When I click on 'details', this is what appears:
WINWORD caused an invalid page fault in
module USER32.DLL at 0187:bff558c6.

When I access the task manager, I find that Word is still
running in the background.

If anyone knows how to fix this problem, PLEASE email
me!!! I have uninstalled and reinstalled, to no avail and
can find no Microsoft article in reference to this problem.

Thanx, in advance,
Becky

Hi Becky,

The "Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for Word" and Norton AV is a lethal
combination. <g>

If you aren't using the Works Suite Add-In functionality:
- Works Task Launcher
- Works Mail Merge functionality, (e.g. if you are using Works Address
book)
- Word to Works converter.

Then go to your Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs and uninstall
it since the add-in is known to cause its share of headaches.
Generating an error on closing Word is just one of the many.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.
