WinXP doesn't find text within Word_2.0

My operating system is WinXP-pro updated with SR-2 and all subsequent
updates. Also loaded on my computer is Office97 which includes Word97.
I've posted this question here on the Word Newsgroup at the suggestion
of a WinXP Newsgroup member even though I believe the problem lies with
WinXP.

Prior to switching to WinXP from Win98SE, I had no problem searching for
text strings within older Word_2.0 files. I have an archive of hundreds
and hundreds of Word_2.0 documents that I would like to be able to
selectively identify based on the occurance of specified text within the
document. As shipped from the factory, the Search tool included with
WinXP Windows Explorer does not search within Microsoft Word files
predating Word97. Copernic, a third party desk top search tool, also
does not find text within Word files predating Word97 perhaps because it
depends on a Microsoft search "filter." I have been told that
Microsoft's decision to exclude the older files was to prevent the
search from returning "extraneous" results. I never had a problem with
too many extraneous results.

Does any know of a search tool that will work under WinXP that will find
text occurances in the older Word_2.0 documents? Keep in mind that both
the old and the new both have the same .doc suffix identifier.
