wireless mouse no standby

I just installed a "Microsoft wireless optical mouse 2000 using a USB port at
the rear of the computer . Now my computer will not go into standby as
before. It will stay on 24/7 unless I manually put it in standby. I have it
set to go into standby after 30 min. If I disconnect the mouse from the USB
port the computer will then go into standby as set. Is there a setting that I
must change, the instructions say nothing about this. Help please.
