wizard woes

hello

i'm new at this, so please be gentle

i am running office for mac 2004 pro on a powerbook g4 1.5g with 512k
ram, osx 10.4 (pause-deep breath); i cannot seem to find out how to
import files in excel from other (windows) sources; the message balloon
says there is no application to open the files, both of which are
proprietary software in windows word and excel; i have read the
instruction to go to the 'text import wizard', and to click on
'finish'; but when i get to the import wizard, there's no 'finish'
there

how do i go about importing filles from one excel user (on a toshiba
notebookrunning some version of windows after windows 2000) into the
powerbook? the files work fine when imported into a (very) old dell
notebook running windows 98

What format are these files? It is possible that these files are in a
format that the Mac version does not recognize. Do the files have an
extension?

The excel files should open directly when double clicked if they have an
..xls extension. Can you go to file\open and simple open the excel files?

as to format, here is what the provider says i need:

pc or pc compatible
32 mb ram
pentium or better
windows 95/98/me/nt/xp

(they also mention a different version of this software ast 52 mb ram
if i need mdac or jet - which meant nothing to me)

according to them, if i were using windows 3.x, i would 'find the
install file using the file manager (which is in the main group in the
programmanager)'

What kind of files are these? Are they standard ".xls" & ".doc" files?

If so, you don't have to "Import" them, you simply have to open them. Either
dragging the file icon to the application icon, or control-clicking the icon
and then asking to "Open with..." the corresponding application, or even
asking "Open..." from the "File" menu inside the application.

Have you already tried one of these methods? What was the result?

If they're specific files, what kind of?

It appears that you are describing either a custom installer or plug-in
script that uses VBA.

I've encountered various plug-ins that said windows only, but if I could
either 1)extract the .exe file with stuffit or 2)install the "program" on a
windows machine I could then access the files. Often, the files are only
..xls files. If it also includes a plug-in it may or may not work on your
Mac depending on the version of VBA it uses.

Post back if this is on the right track.
