Wizards aren't working properly

When I try to Create a Query Using Wizard, I can see all the tables and
queries in my DB, and can choose one, but then under "Available Fields," no
fields show, and I can't proceed. Same problem with Report Wizard.

Similarly, running the Find Duplicates Query Wizard, I can choose the table
i want to start with, but then get a message "You must select a table or
query that contains at least one field that does not have the Memo or OLE
data type." My table meets those requirements!

These problems happen on this computer, and other computers, with the
current database, and other databases, regardless of whether the DB is
accessed over a peer-to-peer network or on the local hard drive, regardless
of whether logged in as Admin or Limited user. The DB's were created in
Access 2000. Same errors whether opening the DB in Access 2000 or Access
2003. Yet another PC on my system has no trouble performing these tasks on
the same DBs. A third PC, when DB is renamed and saved locally, all problems
disappear. A fourth PC, when DB is renamed and saved locally, problems still
exist.

All PC's run Win XP Pro SP2, fully patched. Situation same whether
Kaspersky AV is running or not. All PC's have default printers designated.

Help, please!

I have a few WAGs.

1. When installing Office, they did a minimum install. Try reinstalling
Office doing a custom install and throw in everything.

2. You have a run time installed or another version of Access that is
messing things up.

3. The virus checker is a little overactive. Try turning it off for a little
while for testing. If that's it, you can usually set the virus checker to
ignore .MD* files. I don't know enough about Kaspersky to comment on it.

4. I'm assuming that Office and Access are installed locally on each PC.

Thanks for replying, Jerry.

I'm afraid neither the re-registration nor the hack solved it for me. I
also installed Access 2003 on an identical PC that had never previously had
any version of Access installed, and have the same errors. Re-registered and
did the hack, same errors.

Same problems on Northwinds, and any other sample/template DB from MS
webpage. This is true for machines with Access 2000 and Access 2003.

Yet I have one machine that exhibits no problems. Where else to determine
the variable(s) in question? Other thoughts?

Eureka! You got it solved. It's the interaction with Kaspersky AV.

When Kaspersky's "Real-Time Protection" is running at Maximum or Recommended
level, MS Access Wizards won't run. When Kaspersky's Real-Time Protection is
set to High Speed, the wizards WILL run IF the database in on the local
machine, but NOT if the database is accessed over a (peer-to-peer) network.
In order to get them functioning over the network, Real-Time Protection must
be disabled by an Administrator. There's a brief discussion here, at the
Kaspersky forums, for those interested:

For the record, or for anyone else's benefit, the answers to your questions
below are: 1) All full installs, 2) No on the run-time, inconclusive on the
multiple versions, and 4) Yep.

A thousand thanks, Jerry!

It appears that if you just allow Calling to API function, it will
resolve the problem without changing everything but the kitchen sink
to allow.
