wmv error message when inserted in PowerPoint 2003

Hello
I have been able to insert wmv video files created in Movie Maker for
several years. Now when I use View Slide and when the slide containing the
video is to be played, a Microsoft Error Message is created. These are sent
to MS.

Then when I try to insert new movie file into PowerPoint, I get the same
message and I am unable to proceed.

wmv files run in Windows Media Player (updated to Media 10)
mpeg and avi files will install in PowerPoint 2003
I can convert the wmv files to avi and install in PP2003

When using mplay32 the wmv files will play but when completed, and I close
the window an MS error message is created.

I have spoken with HP and updated my nw8000 notebook.
I have updated DirectX
Using Windows XP Pro SP2
Re-Installed Office 2003 Pro and rechecked for Microsoft updates
Updated and still can play DVD in Windows Media Player
Checked MCI Extensions and wmv is present
Have moved the folder with the PowerPoint presentation and related movies
clips to the desktop and shortened the movie clip file names to 1, 2,3 to
ensure there are within the 128 limit

Not sure what the error message is telling me

things like; check 0x005db311
code 0xc000005
Image base 0x30000000

It would be great to be able to insert the wmv video clips into PowerPoint
2003 again. They are quick and easy to update

Yes, I can install buttons and hyperlink to Windows Media Player and the wmv
files will play.

Appreciate your thoughts and input

Have you upgraded Movie Maker? WinXP SP2 introduced some incompatibilities
with Movie Maker so if you haven't upgraded it you can get "weirdness".

There could be a number of reasons for the problem. However instead of
spending a lot of time on it I offer you the use of a new add in I created
to deal with multimedia issues in PPT. You may download a free 14 day trial
at www.pfcmedia.com. Should take care of the problem and you can discard
the add in at anytine.
