WMV files not playing on Some Computers

We've got a PPT presentation which uses wmv video files. On some of our
computers (Windows Media 10.00.00.436) the video plays fine. On other
computers (same configuration as near as we can tell) the video goes to a
black screen and we get no audio or video.

Any idea's or suggestions?

Couple of things, what version of wmv are they? Some machines may not
support the version you are using. Second thing, make certain that when you
move the presentation and video to another machine you put it in a folder
with a short path. (IE C:\test - do NOT put it on the desktop!)

The version of the WMV is 9. I've got the PPT and the wmv file in the root
of Q:\. File name is Video Clips.ppt. (So should not be the 128 characters
problem)

You may not have wmv 9 codecs installed on the other machines. Probably the
easiest solution is to install/re-install Windows Media Player 9 or 10.
This will install the required codecs.

Connect the computer, on which the wmv files do not play, to the internet.
Allow Windows Media Player to download codecs from the internet. Start the
video on its own in Windows Media Player (not from inside the ppt-file).
Windows Media Player should download and install the missing codecs
automatically and play the videos. After that, PowerPoint should be able to
play them, too. (PowerPoint does not download missing codecs automatically.)

Best regards,

Thanks Austin -

That worked for us! I was starting to get worried since the presentation is
tomorrow. Just glad that the attorney decided to practice today so we had
some time to resolve the issue. :)
