WMV Movies inserted into ppt 2003

We have WMV files version 9, inserted into Powerpoint 2003, we have a client
that can't get them to play inside of ppt, but when they are played
individually with Media Player 10 they play fine, then they play inside of
ppt, but once the computer has been rebooted - they stop playing. Any
thoughts or ideas on how to get the WMV files to play correctly and
consistently inside of ppt?

Thanks - I will have my client try the codec ...

Question, I did download the pfcmedia and I inserted the wmvs - but I can't
figure out how to get the movies to loop - is this possible? if so, can you
tell me how?

You may right click the video after insertion and select Animation. From
there you may change any settings you normally can.

Thanks for the info, I had my client download and install the required codec
and the wmv's are still not playing inside of ppt. I also double-checked the
version of Windows Media Player and that is the lastest version also. Any
other thoughts? besides the PCFMedia (although it does work - there is a lot
of quality loss especially with text and is not a great option for this
project) Thank for all you help! Lynne

Also, below is the latest report back from my client:

" It is very strange. If I go in and play the individual movies and then
run the powerpoint presentation, the movies work. But only if I play each of
them first. I went in and played numbers 1, 2, 7, 11, and the jet with sound
and ONLY each of those played when I ran the powerpoint. It's very bizarre."

You are going to have to help me here. I downloaded the file(s) and ran the
largest through PFCMedia. The result was everything I would expect. File
size went from 10.4 meg to 4.2 meg and no visible loss in quality.

With that said I compared my presentation with yours and I see that you have
enlarged (stretched) the video on the slide. This will definitely cause a
loss in quality, especially when it comes to text. If you need a larger
video image it is best to create it in your video editor and not have PPT
re-size it.

As an additional test I ran the same video through again and used the Legacy
setting. The result was a slightly larger file with excellent clarity. I
then moved the presentation to my test machine running Windows 98 and WMP 9
and all worked exactly as it should. Perhaps you should use the Legacy
setting to ensure compatibility with your client.

Thanks for helping me troubleshoot this ... unfortunately I need to use the
WMVs inside of PowerPoint without using the PFCMedia.

This is what I did, I was given the WMV files, I inserted them into a PPT
file, I did not enlarge them at all, they came in at that size and I told
them to play on click and set some to loop - that's it!!

Sent the link to my client, the files were downloaded and when attempted to
be played inside of ppt they did not work, outside of ppt they would play
with media player. Then sometimes they would work in ppt, but not always.
So we started to go through the suggested steps: download WMP 10, still the
same ... codec - still the same, path issue, same ...

what do you mean by legacy setting? is this in ppt? or the pfcmedia? the
client has windows xp and ppt 2003 - if that helps.

if at al possible, we would like to resolve this issue with the native wmv
files as we need to provide them with these for other use and can't rely on
the pfcmedia if they are to be used outside of ppt - know what I mean?

what happens when you play the ppt as is? do the wmv's work for you? they
work fine for me on several different machines - its the clients that is not
cooperating ...

Not certain why but ok.

Ah, more information, always a good thing!!! If a given movie is working
"sometimes" but not others it is not a codec issue. There is something else
causing the problem, the most likely candidate being video drivers.

One of the features of PFCMedia is it's "Legacy" setting. This basically
processes the media to an older format that plays on older machines. The
trade off is the file size tends to be a bit larger.

Sure I know what you mean, but there is no reason at all you can't use the
PFCMedia processed files in other applications. In fact you will find the
files themselves are smaller and tend to playback more smoothly.

Worked as expected here, well not counting the distortion in your
presentation you mentioned. Once processed in PFCMedia that was taken care
of.
