I've been inserting .wmv files into powerpoint for a couple of years with great success and positive results. Occasionally, I get someone who says that the presentation runs fine but the video file(.wmv) will not play. I've read your multimedia tutorial recently and was enlightened by it, finding out that Windows Media Player has nothing to do with playing video clips in PPT, instead, it's the MCI. I recently had my computer re-imaged by our IT people and have come to find that I am no longer able to insert and play .wmv's from ppt (they play fine in windows media player). Since the re-imaging/re-installation I know that I have installed/upgraded to windows media player 9 and Quicktime 6, I suspect that QT 6 is the culprit in screwing up my MCI. I checked my registries (MCI extensions and MCI132) against what the tutorial had listed and deleted the quicktime extensions to match the tutorial's list, still I can't play .wmv's from the MCI. The prompt I get from powerpoint when the movie doesn't play is "Powerpoint could not insert a movie from the selected file. The file is either non-standard or Quicktime has not been installed corectly". I'm guessing that my MCI does not have a video codec for .wmv files. I also notice that .wmv is not among the types of movie files offered when I'm attempting to insert a movie file into PPT. Any ideas on how to rectify the problem and return to the "good ol' days" of playing .wmv clips from Powerpoint?
