Won't print correct page and leaves blank spaces between lines

M

M.J. Macie

In Word 2007, the pages on my document are not lining up with the pages that
are printed. If I print page 1, page 2 prints. Also, the printed document
comes out with blank spaces between lines that are not on the computer page.
How do I line up the pages to print correctly and how do I stop the printer
from printing the document with blank spaces in between lines?

Thank you,

MJ Macie

For the first issue, note that if the document contains section breaks, you
may have to specify the page and section number (see
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting/PrintMultipleSections.htm). To remember
the syntax, display the "Section" and "Formatted page number" options on the
status bar (right-click the status bar in order to see those options in Word
2007).

For the second issue, you should try updating or reinstalling the printer
driver.

I find that Word often gets confused if a "Page break before" paragraph
follows a hard page or section break. While it may not insert an extra blank
page, it evidently gets confused about the pagination. Also, since a page
break inherits the formatting of the following paragraph, the combination
with "Page break before" becomes even worse.

Well, ordinarily you would be careful to avoid "Page break before"
formatting after a hard page or section break. I know I've had a lot of
documents that had section breaks (to change the top margin for a section of
photos, to allow two to fit on a page) in which it was virtually impossible
to print a specific page accurately. It's possible the (excessively revised)
documents were corrupt, but in retrospect I always suspected that I had done
something stupid in the vicinity of the section break.
