Won't stop rounding -- HELP

J

John Dough

I'm trying to put together a list of all my credit cards in Excel X (not
04). As you may know, most credit card numbers are sixteen digits, in the
format 1111 1111 1111 1111.

I set up a custom format for the row containing the credit card numbers as
####-####-####-####. Now, when I enter data however, the last digit gets
rounded down to the closest zero. No matter what I enter for the last 4
digits, the final digit always changes to 0. And it changes not only on the
spreadsheet, but also in the formula bar. No matter what number I enter, as
soon as I press the return button the last digit changes to 0.

What is going on with this and how do I work around it.

XL's maximum precision is 15 decimal digits, so there is no number
format that you can use.

Instead, you can preformat the cell as Text, or you can prefix the entry
with an apostrophe:

'0000-0000-0000-0000

You'll have to enter the hyphens yourself.
