won't stop sending

My problem is corrected but thought I'd post this to help anyone else
with this problem. We had 2 users who exceeded the maximum Outlook 2000
pst file size in the same week. It happened while they had outgoing mail
that hadn't sent yet. The outgoing mail was 'stuck' however the
recipient reported getting multiple copies of the mail.

After taking care of the file size issues and running the inbox repair
tool everything on their mail system seemed to function properly.
However, Outlook continued to send out the mail that was previously
stuck in the outbox each time the started outlook. The mail never
appeared in the users Outlook though.

After trying many things found on the web, we finally discovered that
if we removed the mail account from Outlook, restarted it and tried a
send/receive, we'd get an undeliverable mail error siting the 'non
existant' mail as the culprit. The mail account was added back in and
then everything worked fine.

No more of the ghost mail received by the recipient.

I've never come across this before and couldn't find anything on the
web. It appeared that the mail was somewhere within the operation of
Outlook and unable to send it. So, every time the user restarted
Outlook, it tried sending the mail. Even though it successfully sent,
Outlook thought the mail send failed.

I'd really like to know what was happening just to satisfy my
curiosity. So if anyone has an idea, please let me knw.

Thanks.
