Word Altering a style

I¹m accustomed, in Mac Word and PC Word 2000, to changing a style in one
paragraph and then, if I want confirm the change, I simply click in the
style box and then Return/Return which opens the do-you-want-keep-changes
dialog and confirms.

Now I also have a PC with Word 2002 and this does not happen. Annoyingly a
change is shown in the style box as Style-so-and-so +
what-ever-the-change-was! As far as I can see the only way of changing the
style is to

Please show me how to get back to the old easy way of changing a style ok,
it never worked like that on Normal but it did on all the others I used,
both Word styles and custom ones of my own

Thanks

Hi Francis:

It's a settable option in Tools>Options>Edit. Enable "Prompt to update
style".

However, you will find it to your long-term benefit to put some work into
reading up the help on the Task Pane and experimenting with that.

It actually does provide a much easier way of updating styles. The Task
Pane has an "Update style to match selection" facility and a "Select all
similar" that are new, and far more flexible than the old ways.

They're in the Formatting Palette in Mac Word 2004 too.

Cheers

You seem to be asking WinWord questions on the Mac ng? :)
Anyhow, Word 2002 made a ton of interface changes from WinWord 2000--some of
them made it to the Mac, but only in Word 2004, I think. Here are some
links re WinWord 2002 that should help, the first one directly answers your
comment re the style box.
