This is a re-post--I hope someone can help me avoid a re-install of both Win Xp
Office XP standard
When I click on the Word 2003 program icon, I get a dialog box with
the following messages
"Preparing to install
Then
"Please wait while windows configures Office XP Standard edition 2003
If I cancel this operation, Word then opens & closes normally
Normal.dot is present before & after this process in the documents &
settings\applications\microsoft\templates folder
In word itself, clicking tools\templates & add-ins dialog box, where it
says ""Global templates & add-ins", clicking on the "add" button reveals,
in the "add templates" box the presence of BOTH Normal.dot and
~$normal.dot templates.
Same thing is revealed when I click on the "Attach" button in the
"Document Template" section
However, when I look, via windows explorer, in the documents & setting
\applications\microsoft\templates folder, Normal.dot is the ONLY
template present (NOT also ~$normal.dot
If I let this operation continue (by not canceling it & not opening word),
like many times before, after the dialog message "gathering required in
formation" completes, the "Please Wait..." dialog again appears, and
about 10 seconds later I get a blue screen crash with the message
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA
STOP OX....50
And it begins "Dump of Physical memory.
These are the same messages that would appear if I tried to remove
repair Word in either the "add/remove" part of the control panel, or
in word itself (Help\Detect & Repair
I have disabled the Norton anti-virus word plug-in and Norton virus
scan revealed no virus in the word program files. Also checked th
temp files, word startup & add-ins & nothing there. Finally, I delete
the registry Word data key (left Normal.dot intact) & still got a blu
screen crash
Any ideas as to what is going on
Will I need to do a complete, clean format & (groan) re-install of both WinXP
& Office XP
(I cannot remove Office XP via the control panel---I get the above-mentioned
blue screen cras
Thank
