Word '03 Menubar- extra 'tools'

a friend recently installed word '03. he's used it for the last month with no
problem. 3 days ago when he started it up the menubar appeared with file,
edit, view and then 7 instances of 'tools' (all functional). There's also one
on the standard toolbar. I have tried detect and repair to no avail. I have
uninstalled and reinstalled with no change. It's a brand new computer that
has never been on the internet so I can't see it being a virus but I will
investigate that as soon as he connects. Could someone please offer a
suggestion on how to fix this? Thanks

This sounds like an Addin at work. Has anything been installed to "improve" or
"supplement" Word?

If you hold down CTRL when starting Word, do the toolbars and menus look like
they did when Word was first installed?
