Word '03 slows Outlook '03 and uses lots of memory

When using Word as the Outlook editor - Word's memory size grows to 300MG
plus AND is very slow to use. When I used just Outlook's text editor Outlook
works fine but Word remains slow and keeps asking for the 'normal.dot' to be
replaced when closing?

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm not using Norton - I use AVG. If I turn off
Word as the editor for Outlook the programs work fine independently. If I
turn it on - Outlook slows and Word hogs 300MB of RAM while being very
sluggish.

Other AV apps eg the popular free ediition of Grisoft's AVG antivirus
software, require similar treatment.
In this instance:

regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avgoff2k.dll"

Try disabling the Office Plugin that comes with AVG by clicking
on Start | Run, and in the Open box, type:

regsvr32.exe /u avgoff2k.dll

If this fixes the problem, great. If this doesn't fix the
problem, then you can reenable the AVG Office Plugin by clicking
on Start | Run, and in the Open box, type:

regsvr32.exe avgoff2k.dll

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm using the registered version of AVG and the
/u comment idea did not work.

As soon as I turn on Word as the default editor - Outlook slows down and
Word grows in size in memory?

I've used the 'detect/repair' feature with no successs. I'm thinking of
taking Office 2003 off the PC and re-loading it ....

Any other thoughts are appreciated!

The folder will be different for the registered version of AVG. Can you
locate the file?
Reloading Word is unlikely to effect an improvement.

I found the file no problem in the correct folder after a bit of looking -
and performed the /u procedure described above. Sadly it made no difference.

One other thing I've noticed - when I use Word and Outlook together - there
are times when I'm typing and the machine is 'occuppied', i.e. letters won't
appear on the screen. This happens for about 10 seconds - and the stops. Its
like something is indexing or searching.

I have no malware or viruses to the best of my knowledge.

The problem began about 1 month ago and is getting worse every day. Its odd
:))

Thanks again for the kind help!
