I am using a G4 powerbook with OS10.4.2 with Word 04 with the service
pack 2 installed. even prior to installing the service pack, if I would
leave word open and unused for a little while, when I go back to it I
get the beachball and it is locked up forcing me to force quit. I have
found that it happens more when I restart using the machine after it
has gone to sleep, ie after lunch. Anyone else with this problem and is
there a fix?

thanks

I have the exact same problem. I also find that it occasionally freezes
after I click on save. When I'm trying to save the document it displays
"Word is Connecting to Printer" on the bottom bar of the window. The
only way for me to get out of this is to force quit. Any ideas?

I have had the same problem. Mine would also freeze when I would try
and save. I got this information off another site and thought I would
pass it on. Read the information below. It worked well for me. I
hope this helps.

I am assuming you have the latest version of Office for the Mac. There
is a update app included with Office, should be in your utilizes
folder.

One of the solutions can be to trash the Word Plist and preferences.

com.miscrosoft.Word.plist <---file is located here:
/Users/YOURNAME/library/Preferences

com.microsoft.Word.prefs.plist <----file is located here:
/Users/cjm/Library/Preferences/Microsoft

Trash these files while Word is closed, and empty the trash. Logout and
back in or a reboot. Then open Word. Word will write these files again.
This normally solves frequent crash problems. Let me know how this
works out. Thanxs for using OSX support.

It sounds like you are experiencing an Apple problem that appeared in Tiger
caused by ATSUI. Apple have recently release 10.4.3 which purportedly fixes
this problem. If you still experience the issue after an upgrade, please
reply to this thread.

Thanks,
