Word 07 crashes when Outlook attachment is opened

A new user to Office 07 has a repeating problem when any Word document is
opened from a Outlook attachment. Of course Word will attempt to immediately
recover from this and then open again. Once it opens again however, it is a
blank document. After checking for any errors, the only one found is in event
viewer, application log:

Faulting application winword.exe, version 12.0.6211.1000, stamp 46d4a7df,
faulting module hpz3r4v6.dll, version 61.63.248.0, stamp 45c072db, debug? 0,
fault address 0x00045ac8.

(This user is also up to date on any patches and service packs as well.)

Has anyone come across this problem before? Any searches online have
returned no results or possible fixes. I could unintall and then reinstall
but there is no gaurantee this won't return as a problem later. Any and all
assistance with this would be appreciated.

Either an HP scanner or an HP printer driver is either corrupt or
incompatible. Either install an up to date driver or select a different
printer.

There is a HP printer installed on the laptop and it does have the latest
drivers. If the user is only opening a Outlook attachment and not trying to
print, it would still generate this error?

Yes. There have been LOADS of problems caused by HP drivers in Office 2007
reported by many users on this forum. Many have reported this to HP who, of
course, say that it is Microsoft's problem.

I have the same issue. I also have an open case with HP case #8009582542

Whenever I call they say they are still working on it and will have an
update soon. That was 4 months ago.

I used to think HP was a good company. They are striving to convince me I
was wrong.
