Word 07 has stopped saving files properly, prompts with the ~tmp f

Word began this week to fail to save files normally. When I click on the save
button, I either get an error message or the save window opens. Either way,
it's trying to save the ~temp.docx rather than the file name.

When I type in the regular file name, it then, usually, saves properly and
seems to continue. Occasionally, I have to save as another name, exit Word
and rename.

What caused the problem and how do I eliminate it?

Have no clue why 4 were posted. I'm having some network problems and never
was told the earlier ones made it. My apologies for the flood and if any
forum manger reads this, please delete the extras.
