Word '07 is randomly changing documents to Read-Only status

It does not happen every time. Occasionally when a document is opened from a
network drive, or from a local drive, it gets changed to Read-Only and cannot
be saved without being re-named. We are using Office 2007 Professional and
Windows XP Professional.
