Word 08 acting odd when using Spaces in Leopard

I just installed OfficeMac 08 today. Didn't seem to have any issues installing. I removed 04 trial first and 08 install didn't see any previous versions. The problems I am having only relate to Word. I tested the other utilities, Excel, Powerpoint, and they all seem to work fine.

I created a Word document using the notebook view. Everything was smooth sailing, until I went to my Spaces and chose another screen. I then went back to my Word Space screen and the whole Word screen went invisible except the little colored tabs. The formatting palette was there, and clicking the tabs or the formatting palette would not bring it back. After switching back and forth between spaces, it finally came back. I attempted it again to see if it would repeat the problem, and sure enough it did. I continued the test by making a new notebook word document. It would work fine, until I added some text. Then all screwy again.

Also, if I attempt to do the same thing with all the other Word types, Publisher, Outline, and normal view, it would work fine. However, after switching back and forth on the Spaces, the formatting palette would always go blank and hide behind the Word document. By clicking it, it would reappear with all the options.

Any tips would be appreciated as I really like the notebook option, but I have to be able to use my Spaces too.

Not only does Word 2008 work with spaces, it makes it impossible to use spaces with other applications. I've tried to leave all Word docxs (and docs) in one space and then put other applications in other spaces. It doesn't work. Word doc(x)s still move around randomly.

It's one thing for Word 08 not to work with spaces, but to actually interfere with other apps that do (did) work with spaces, that's pretty bad. I have to admit I feel quite foolish for purchasing this product (at great expense).

Yeah, Spaces is broken :)

We're waiting on a fix from both companies for that one. Trust me, they
won't leave it like this.

It's not just Word that breaks it: a few other applications do too... I
hope you don't have any of them :)

Cheers

Thanks everyone for the replies. I assumed it was a bug since Leopard and OfficeMac 08 are both in their early stages. Bugs are expected and I will keep an eye out for the update (hopefully soon). In the mean time, I will try and not use spaces while I am working on a word doc, luckily, expose is just as cool.

I was waiting for the update to finally post (12.0.1), eagerly anticipating some fixes:
Spaces compatibility for word, slow startup for word, terribly long spinning-beachball saves in notebook view, erratic behaviors in notebook view...to mention a few.

Sadly, no. It opens and saves as slow as ever, and the cursor still disappears in notebook view, and the window pops about randomly to different spaces, hiding behind other applications in the most infuriating manner possible.

Is it impolite to ask, what the heck did MS spend all these months doing, and what did the 350mb patch do for me?

Yep: Expose and Spaces are both on the list to fix. I understand that
we're waiting on Apple to get it working right before the Microsoft fix can
come out.

Word is the only Office application affected, but there are several others
that won't work with them.

Cheers

Word also doesn't play nicely with Exposé, for what it's worth.

I don't have a problem relegating my Word docs in Spaces... They stay in the Space that I assign them too generally. I have other problems with Word though - already posted a question -.-

Maybe try fixing Word in specified Spaces? :)

Assigning word docs to one space does seem to keep them there, at least post-update. (Previously, I believe it didn't.) That doesn't solve the problem, though. When I was using Word 04, I kept different writing projects, each of which typically had at least two Word 04 docs open, in different spaces and moved among them. Having to keep all Word docs in one space means I can't do that any longer.

It's frustrating to have a new product break functionality that existed in an old product. Various assurances that (a) new products don't work anyway, (b) it's going to be fixed any day now, and/or (c) it's really Apple's fault (my experience had been that other software providers have been able to deliver products that work on OS X's terms) don't help much either. So please, no posts of that sort.

It would be awfully nice to receive some assurance that we will be able to use Word 08 with spaces sometime though. Is that a promise the MSOffice team can make, or is it still more uncertain than that?

In other words, stick with Word or switch to Nisus Pro?

To get an answer from the MS Office team, you would need to engage Microsoft
through the Help>Send Feedback mechanism. The people in here are
volunteers: we don't work for Microsoft.

All I can say is what I have said before: I have been told that this bug is
on the list to fix. I believe it is at least partly Apple's bug -- Spaces
doesn't work the way they said it would -- and we're waiting on a fix from
Apple.

Word is not the only application affected by this bug: it seems to impact
several of the complex OS X applications.
