Word 08 "Cannot be opened because there are problems with content"

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: intel

I am running Word 08 and I tried opening a .docx file and it came up with this error:

"The Open XML file "....docx" cannot be open
because there are problems with the content"

i've tried the "recover text from any file" trick, but it just brings up a bunch of crap. please help!

Just to save you a lot of trouble, "That file has had it. It's a lost
cause."

If Recover Text can't get any text out of it, there is no readable text in
there.
