Word 10.1.5: Findcharacter/symbols and replace withparagraphs?

Please help. (I copied and pasted the
symbol here because I don't know
how to replicate it on the keyboard.)

One company's tech support dept. is sending me very long automated email
responses that I receive with Entourage 10.1.4 but they are extremely
difficult to read because they come with
square-shaped symbols where
paragraphs should be.

I copied and pasted one of their messages into a new Word 10.1.5 document
and wanted to find and replace all the
squares with new paragraphs.

I was going to type the code for paragraph ^p into the Replace box and copy
and paste the
into the Find box as I did here, but Word 10.1.5 can't
handle that and merely inserts ^p or blank spaces in the Find box, neither
or which helps find the
s.

Please help. I copied and pasted a square symbol into my first attempt at
this posting and it showed on my monitor, but didn't in my initial positing
of this message.

Hi Norman,

Try using ^c in the Replace box (or click More, Special, Clipboard
Contents).

Dayo and others who have tuned into this thread, I now think that the
paragraph code in the message I tried to clean up in Word become corrupted
into square symbols as the message moved through cyberspace and different
kinds of hardware and software between their email program and my Entourage
10.1.4. I recall other messages I've seen over the years that have had
their formatting garbled in transmission.

It's ironic that when I forwarded the message to a colleague and a blind
copy to myself that all the squares became code for new paragraphs and it
was quite legible, rather than one giant paragraph broken up by squares.

I know now that Word was the wrong vehicle for attempting to convert the
squares into paragraph marks.

Respectfully, Norm

Hello Norman,

I posted a similar problem on January 30 (title: "Problem with post format
in my OE 5.02"). It wasn't solved, but Paul Berkowitz, on the same day, sent
a very interesting explanation, which you might be curious to look up!

By the way, thank you for the very kind remarks you made not long ago about
the help you've received from people in this newsgroup -- though it hasn't
been entirely one-way traffic! I always enjoy pondering your well-described
"challenges" and following the answers when they are Word X-specific (I'm
not yet on Word X; I'm saving myself for Word 2004!).

Cheers,

Hi Norman,

Glad you solved it--I'll have to remember that trick as I have occasionally
gotten messages in odd formats.

By the way, the Clipboard Contents trick only works in Replace, so the
cursor has to be in that box for the option to show up under More, Special
(you scared me a minute with the thought they had taken out that option, but
I think that must be the issue).
