Hi all,

Ever since the last update (12.1.7), Word crashes every time I try to
save a document as a .doc (versus the newer .docx) file. The crash

The "smoking gun" is here:

"Symbol not found: _OssCreateExcel12ConverterAddrAEDesc"

Then says that when the Dynamic Load of the software modules occurred, one
of the modules loaded did not contain the entry-point that Word required.

In other words, you have some mismatched software modules in there.

This can occur if you start "restoring" things from a backup and don't
restore the whole Office or CS4 suit with all of its components.

In your case, you're a couple of steps behind in updating in any case. So
the quickest fix may be to apply 12.2.0. Download it from the Microsoft
website and apply it as a stand-alone, rather than through Software Update.

It's a weighty little download, simply because it contains a fresh copy of
everything that has ever changed since the software was released.

That SHOULD bring everything "Office 2008" on your system up to consistent
current values, and solve the problem.

However, if the issue is that someone has been playing around restoring (or
MIGRATING...) software from another disk, the update may refuse to apply.
To give yourself the best chance, disconnect all external disks except the
boot drive while you run the update so the update doesn't find any wrong
versions!

Hope this helps
