Word 2 macro won't convert

I want to install a very old version of the AHD dictionary from a CDROM.
It will install okay and I can use it, but I cannot get it to put a macro
button on my toolbar for Word 2000.

When I try to open the included document that is supposed to install the
button, I get the message:

"The macros in this template are in Word 2.0 format and will not be
converted. Do you wish to continue?"

I say yes, but the macros don't run. When I look for the macros using the
VBA editor, there are none.

Is there any way I can make a toobar button in my Word 2000 program that
will run this dictionary program?

If you can make a macro to run the program, then you can easily add a
toolbar button to run that macro. The task is to make the macro to run the
program. You may need to use the Shell command to do that with a program
that old.

Yes! That's what I had in mind that needed to be done (in general terms).
Unfortunately, on a more specific note, I have no idea how to make a shell
program.
(I don't even have a clear idea of what a "shell" is.)
Any advice on where I can find a good beginner's guide?

"Shell" is a VBA keyword. It executes an esternal command whose name you
provide to it. Look it up in the VBA help.
