Word 2000/2003 Autotext-Template Compatibility

I created my auto text entries in Word 2000, in Normal.dot, but when I use
them in Word 2003, they show up as a tracked change. I then have to accept
the change to get the text. This is problemactic, since track changes is not
on. I have tried multiple combinations of tracked change settings, but this
has no effect. New autotext entries I create work normally.

Another possibly related issue, is that templates created in Word 2000, show
up as "Damaged" in Word 2003. These templates work fine in Word 2000 -
checked, recopied, cross checked same templates back into Word 2000.

As a test, I have tried these in several computers with differing windows
versions (Win XP/Word 2k, Win 2k/Word 2k, Win XP/Word 2003, Win 2k/Word
2003), all with the same results.

Are there some compatibility issues with Word 2000 and 2003?

How can I correct these?

Original set-up Windows 2000, Office 2000, Laptop, Pentium 4, 500Mb ram.
New set-up Windows XP, Office 2003, Laptop, Pentium 4, 500Mb ram (same
computer).

Yes there are compatability issues, but if you have XP, you can check
compatibility in more detail when you access program properties for Home of
Professional XP.

If a document created in one version of Word is slightly damaged, internally,
often that one version of Word can still work with it, but another might have
problems (even to the point of not being able to open the file).

There are a number of things you can try:

1. Create a new template within Word 2003. Copy all but the last paragraph mark
into the new document to carry over any text. You'll need to recreate margins,
headers, footers, etc. Use Tools/Templates and Addins/Organizer to copy the
AutoText from the original template to the new one. If you're lucky, it will
carry across without the dross.

2. Save the template as HTML in Word 2000. Close. Open it again and save again
as a Word document.

3. Open the template in Word 2003, save as XML. Close. Re-open and save as a
Word document.

4. Same as (3), but open the XML in a text editor and try to correct the problem
by editing the "internals". (Last resort. Personally, I'd try recreating the
AutoText before I did this.)
