Word 2000 closed when opening templates

Hello,

I use Word 2000 and Win 2k SP4.

I noticed today that whenever I try to load a template under the other
tabs than "general", word is closed down. However when I reopen Word,
it's there under "Window".

I can't say how long this has been going on, since I normally don't use
the templates that come with Word.

The templates I created under Word 97 many years ago open fine. It's
just the ones that come with Word, that cause crashes.

Anyone who know a solution?

If I instead in Word chose file|open and navigate to ...Templates\1053,
then I have no problems to open the same templates that crash Word when
I use File|new...

Hello,

I've found out what causes this behaviour. It's the macro "Show Windows
in taskbar". Since I don't like the do have the taskbar cluttered with
Word documents, I use this macro.

Is there another way to have one Window in the taskbar without using
this macro? Or is there maybe an updated version since this obviously is
a bug?

Thanks

Fredrik

Not in Word 2000. If you upgrade to Word 2002/2003, you have a choice from
within the program.

Thanks Suzanne.

I think MS should give us an update, so it in Word 2000, like rest of
the Office 2000 programs, would be optional whether to show widows in
the taskbar or not.

If you buy a 2003 model car, and the 2004 models have features that yours
doesn't have, do you feel that the automobile company should provide those
features for your car? What about your computer? When Intel comes out with
faster processors, do you think that Dell should recall your five-year-old
computer and put a new processor in it?

I don't think I'm talking about a feature, more that M$ should correct a
misstake. Word 97 didn't have one window for every document nor does
Word 2002.

One more thing: It *is* possible to disagree without sarcasms.

But this *is* a new feature, and many (if not most) users prefer it. Word
2002 and 2003 by default open each document in a separate window, although
there is a setting to change this (provided in response to user feedback
from Word 2000). Microsoft is not responsible for "fixing" anything in older
versions except bugs that pose security risks, cause the application to
crash, result in data loss, etc. The UI is regarded as a mere skin. Some
users don't like new button styles, either, or the redesign of dialogs, but
MS does not offer a way to "put these back the way they were." If you are
dissatisfied with Word 2000 and don't want to upgrade to Word 2002/2003,
then you can go back to Word 97.

I don't consider that reply sarcastic. It was an analogy that I think is a
fair one.
