We are working in a Word 2000, Windows 2000 environment and have a lot
of documents in Docs Open (which may or may not be relevant). One of
our users has several documents open at once. When he closes one of
them, by hitting the X in the upper right-hand corner, all of the
documents close without prompting him to save any of them. It happens
only rarely (1 out of 20 times, say), but when it does it is
devastating. When he opens Word again, some times the documents are
auto-recovered. I have reinstalled Office and I have installed all the
Office updates on the Microsoft site to his machine and he is still
(very rarely) having this problem. Another person in our office was
having this trouble, but we installed the SP-3 update on her machine
and this fixed it. I read on another newsgroup this might be related
to a handwriting reconition bug but we do not have that installed. I
think it might be related to Docs Open, as I read in a MSKB article,
but installing SP-3 should have fixed that. Could someone please give
me a suggestion? I would really appreciate any thoughts.
