Hi all. I've now had this issue crop up on two boxes here
in the office, and it has me stumped. hopefully someone
here can help.
The issue, so far as I can tell, seems to be that Word
doesn't like opening documents from a shared network drive
which we have mapped to S:. The document opens, displays
fine in the window, but the mouse pointer is constantly
flicking between the hourglass and the arrow. Word is
doing *something* here, but I can't for the life of me
tell what it is. It isn't loading the document each time,
since any changes made (assuming you manage to be patient
enough to wait for word to catch up with your typing)
stick.
Could it be checking for new data? Why does this only
happen over the network and not from the local hard disk?
Why doesn't this happen with the Windows XP machines?
Both affected boxes are running Windows 2000, both are
running Office 2000 (Small Business) and both are fully
patched up. The server is Windows 2000 Small Business
Server.
Hope some of you have some bright ideas...
