Word 2000 continuously repaginating documents

Hi NG
I am using Word 2000 and it has been working fine for years. However, a few
weeks back it started with a very annoying behaviour. I usually work in the
Print setup view and in this view a severe flickering has started. The mouse
cursor blinks and some text flickers on the status line. I think it says
something like "Repaginating <document>. Press Esc to cancel". Is there
something I can turn off to stop this behaviour? I have suspected a
malicious macro, but there seem to be no macros. The problem appears to
affect all documents I open. When I actually work in the document (type,
move cursor, scroll etc.) the flickering stops. When I just read for a while
it starts again. Certain actions, e.g. "help" seems to stop it temporarily
and it does not start again until after I have done some work on the
document.

The whole problem is very weird and very annoying, so any hint would be
appreciated.

Hi Ivar,

You can turn off background repagination in the Normal
view in Word but in Print Layout view it's always
'live' repagination.

How long are your documents? It's possible that some
documents or the attached template may be damaged
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;211634&FR=1#Topic1
or you may want to try turning off the live spell and
grammar checking in Tools=>Options=>Spelling and Grammar
tab to see if that helps.

My documents are small (in most cases <10 pages). I have tried turning off
grammar/spell ckecking without success.

Damaged template? The best suggestion till now since this suddenly happened
when I opened a reviewed document from a collegue. At first it was only this
document, later it seem to happen on all documents, indicating that
something has migrated to something common, such as the template. Could this
have occured because of differences in Word version? How can it be repared?
