Word 2000 Crash with # in hyperlinks. ScreenTips suspected

Hi

Here, with my MS Word 2000 (FR. No SP because it could not be applied on
the Wn2000 Terminal Server), when I insert an hyperlink with a #
character after the 256th character of the URL, word crashed when the
mouse is dragged over the link.
I guess thatthe problem comes when Words wants to display the
screentips. Disabling the ScreenTips in preferences menu does not
disable them for hyperlinks.

You can make teh test by yourself;

Make the following URL an hyperlink in Word 2000 (it may also be
reproducible in Word XP):
http://www.lri.fr/012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123

8901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789#0
Drag your mouse over the link. Does it crashed MS word ?

Is there a correction for this problem ?

I am now downloading ORKTools to be able to apply SP3 to Office 2000 on
my Win2000 Server. I hope this will solve the problem

Any hint appreciated

That's cos the maximum permissible length is 255 Characters.

So, why does this happens only when a # character (maybe some other
special characters cause this crash) ?

And, most of all, this should NOT make winword crash...
I call it a BUG.

I finally installed office 2K sp3 and the problem remains.

anyone can test it:

copy this text in a Word 2000 document:

Move your mouse cursor over this link.

WinWord crashes !

Anyone at MS reading this newsgroup ? Correcting this bug should not be
a big issue. If you let me have WinWord source code, I may fix it for
you ;) !
