Word 2000 Crash

My Word 2000 decided to crash a few weeks ago. It was installed as part of
Office 2000, and all other programs (excel, powerpoint, etc) still work. I
tried uninstalling and reinstalling, I've also gone into the regedit (with
the help of a computer programmer) to make sure all of Office was gone before
reinstalling, and it still doesn't work. All other programs work. Other
than putting in the recovery disk and wiping my computer completely clean
(which I really don't want to do) any suggestions? Would upgrading to 2003
or 2007 help?
