Word 2000 crashes after Outlook 2003 install

Hello all,

Last week we migrated our old Lotus Notes server to Exchange, and
installed Outlook 2003 on all clients. We still use Word 2000 (sp3) as
our word processor.

The thing is, as soon as the Spell Checker kicks in word crashes with a
memory read error. I found out that removing the proof directory and
copying it from the installation CD fixes it, but after that Outlook
starts asking to install the Spell Checker, and messes it all up again.

Is there anyone out here who knows a solid solution to this problem?

Thanks in advance,
Jaap de Koning

Outlook 2003 is incompatible with Office 2000. You must disable Word as Your
Email editor. We never advise our clients to upgrade Outlook separately from
Office because of all the lost functionality. Office/Outlook 2007 resolves
this by using a different approach in that the Word Email editor is a
separate lite version of Word contained in its own dll.

Thank you for your answer Terry, hopefully this will be enough
motivation for management here to install all of Office 2003.
