Word 2000 Crashes when I try to open a Word Perfect Document

I have Office 2000, and it works great, except when I try to read a Word
Perfect document.

Word 2000 begins to open (or is open when I try to access the WP doc) and
immediately crashes saying "sorry for the inconvenience".

I have downloaded all updates, including all WP converters.

Any thoughts?

JHCClark,

I believe you may be attempting to open a file that was saved as WordPerfect
7.x. If this is the case, you will want to open the file by choosing "Word
6.0/95" under the "Files of Type" drop down from the File\Open dialog box in
Word. This will help Word understand which open converter to use to open
the file.

Another option would be to enable "Confirm conversion at Open" under
Tools\Options\General so you may select the converter to use when opening
the file (this would happen every time you open a file, not just this
WordPerfect file).

In the event neither of these work, you will will want to try choosing
"Recover Text from Any File (*.*)" under the "Files of Type" drop down from
the File\Open dialog box in Word. Using this converter will remove
formatting.

None of those suggestions worked, unfortunately. The file name ends in .wpd,
so when I choose the "Word 6.0/95" option, the file does not appear, as only
..doc files are shown.

Choosing the "Confirm conversion at Open" gave me numerous options to use,
and I used them all. None worked, and some still made it crash.

The "Recover Text from Any File (*.*)" option opened the file up, but it was
garbage (all formatting language).

I opened it up before when I had WP 6, but I have gotten rid of the program.

Any other thoughts?

JHCClark,

This WordPerfect file is corrupted and we have done what we can do inside
Word to recover. Do you know anyone with WordPerfect that might be able to
open the file and Save As in either a Word or .rtf file format? You may
want to search the internet for a WordPerfect file repair utility so recover
the information.
