Word 2000 crashes when pasting graphics

I've been having a problem with Word 2000, (installed as part of Office 2000
Standard installation. Running on Windows XP Pro. Both Office and XP are
updated with the most recent patches/service packs etc.

In Word, if I try to copy or cut and paste any drawing object, graphic,
textbox etc, upon trying to paste, Word freezes unless the graphic wrapping
layout is "in line with text". I can copy and paste by holding down Ctrl and
dragging the item, but cannot use Ctrl C/V or Cut and Paste from the toolbar.

Copying and pasting text or table columns/rows causes no problems.

I can cut and paste anything with no problems in Excel or Powerpoint, it
just seems to be Word. I have tried doing Detect and Repair, and also
uninstalling and reinstalling Office. My company runs off a centralised
Normal.dot and no one else is having the same problem.

This may be just a simple case that you need to empty your temp folder. With
all Apps closed, the temp folder should be empty. You may need to reboot to
delete them all successfully.

D'oh, that didn't change things (but it did clean out my temp folder, which I
don't do often enough!)

The other common causes may be a partially corrupt or incompatible printer
driver or a third party addin. Check that you have the latest driver for
your printer and them delete and reinstall the printer. If it still
persists, check to see if it is an addin by start Word in Safe Mode and
testing. From Start, Run (Winkey+R) type in

winword /a

and press enter. Word will now start in its default install condition
bypassing all templates, addins, macros, etc. Open a document and test now.
