Word 2000 crashes while saving.

Hello,

I have a Word document with a lot of MathType equations. The saving
process takes a lot of time and sometimes it ends with Word crashing
without explanations and WinXP popping the standard error message:
"Microsoft Word for Windows — error encountered..." etc etc. (That's a
translation from the Russian version, so the text may not be exact).
Luckily, document is saved anyway, but it's too annoying to find and
open it all over again. And it can occur in autosaves too, which meann I
have to look into %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Word and
guess which one of the files there is my autosaved document.
So, I look for a resolution. Is it a known bug, or it can just happen if
Word is out off memory? Any help will be appreciated.

System data:
OS: Windows XP SP1
Office version: 2000 SR-1 Professional
MathType ver: 5.2c.
Processor: AMD Athlon 1000MHz
Memory: 256 MB
Error message data:

AppName: winword.exe
AppVer: 9.0.0.3822
ModName: winword.exe
ModVer: 9.0.0.3822
Offset: 00415fe5

Thanks in advance,
Roman

It sounds to me like at least one of your equations is corrupt, which isn't
uncommon, IMHO. I would be trying to copy, one or two at a time over to a
new document, and save the new doc each time. When it crashes on save, you
know you've copied the corrupt one(s). Then rebuild the corrupt one.

Hope it helps!

Word has no built-in function to 'autosave' documents. It only autosaves
recovery information, which may or may not recover your document. See
http://www.gmayor.com/automatically_backup.htm .

Word can crash if the document is corrupt
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/CorruptDoc.htm

When it6 does crash it leave a load of dross behind which will only make
matters worse http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm
